Welcoming Professor Andy Schofield
Thanks to your support, 2025 has been a year of development and transformation at the University of Glasgow. From the progress of the Keystone Building and the leaps made in research, to the opportunities that have been created, gifts like yours are driving advancements here in Glasgow and across the globe.
2025 has also been a year of change, with Professor Andy Schofield joining the University as Principal and Vice-Chancellor. We are delighted to welcome Professor Schofield and here he shares a few words about his first weeks on campus.
“Since joining the University in October of this year, I have been struck by the strength of the partnerships in Glasgow and the enormous affection, belief and commitment many have for this institution.
“I have also been deeply moved by the scale of the impact of your donations. Whether walking across campus or meeting with students and colleagues, the positive work that is being powered by philanthropic gifts is clear to see.

“Gifts like yours are opening doors that might otherwise have remained shut for people across the world and closer to home. Whether it’s opening a door to pursue an innovative idea or creating an opportunity for someone to benefit from our research and education, your support helps invite people into the heart of university life.
“Next year will feature a very special and important celebration, as it marks 575 years of the University of Glasgow. For almost six centuries, this institution has been making breakthroughs, pushing boundaries and changing the world, and everyone who has supported this work is an important part of the story. You’re not only critical to our past, but you’re also laying the foundations for our next chapter and I look forward to our continued collaboration as we move into this exciting milestone year.
“Thank you again for your invaluable support and for helping Glasgow to be world changing.”
