JUNE 2025

Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the Universitas 21 (U21) AGM, hosted by UC Davis. The gathering was a valuable opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, reinforce our shared mission, and celebrate the strength of a truly global network, spanning six continents and countless partnerships.

This year’s AGM held particular significance for the University of Glasgow, as we prepare to host the 2026 U21 AGM next April. With this exciting opportunity on the horizon, we are already thinking about how best to showcase our University and our city, and the welcoming spirit that defines both. In the meantime, we are delighted to share a dedicated feature highlighting our ongoing partnership with Lund University, another valued member of the U21 network.

As part of our commitment to spotlight the individuals who drive our international engagement, we continue our "Meet the DGE" series this month with a special introduction to Dr Mwapatsa Mipando, our newly appointed Dean for Global Engagement for Africa. Dr Mipando shares his vision for the role and reflects on the strategic importance of our partnerships across the African continent.

Looking ahead, we are excited to connect with many of you at EAIE 2025 in Gothenburg this September, as we build momentum toward EAIE 2026 in Glasgow! We look forward to welcoming our partners to experience the City of Glasgow and the warmth of Scotland’s renowned hospitality.

As the academic year draws to a close, it is perhaps a timely moment to pause and reflect. In a world shaped by geopolitical uncertainty and complex global challenges, it is easy to dwell on the difficulties, but now more than ever, it is important to celebrate our collective successes and focus on the opportunities that lie ahead in 2025–26.

Here’s to continued connection, collaboration, and meaningful global engagement in the year to come.
