Helen Callaby

Dr Helen Callaby is a PhD student on the Multimorbidity PhD programme and a registrar in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology. Dr Callaby studied as a medical student at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, before moving to Scotland to undertake her Foundation Training, where she has remained ever since.
She is undertaking her clinical training in Infection at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and prior to commencing the PhD, was a SCREDS Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. She has worked as a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Rare and Imported Pathogens Laboratory, Porton Down, during the 2022 Mpox Public Health Emergency of International Concern. To date, her research work includes Lassa virus, Mpox and TBE. Her true passion is antimicrobial stewardship and she is excited to combine her love for diagnostics and stewardship in this PhD programme.
Dr Callaby is a National Research Scotland (Infection) Trainee representative, and a Medical Trainee Lead in medical education in NHS Grampian. She is also a Specialty Trainee Committee representative for infectious diseases and medical microbiology. She is a theme lead and course co-ordinator for Medical Student Global Health SSC’s at the University of Aberdeen.
