Short Description

This course introduces students to elements of operations management, showing how transformation processes sit at the heart of all organisations. It examines tools, techniques and frameworks that are used in operating, analysing and improving processes.

Course Aims

The course aims to introduce students to a range of theories, frameworks and tools that will equip them to analyse organisational processes and structures for operations management.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate the elements of organisational transformation processes, synthesising theoretical frameworks with practical examples to formulate operations initiatives.

2. Assess and integrate relevant operations performance objectives and strategies to design and optimise complex organisational processes for improved efficiency and competitiveness.

3. Synthesise advanced concepts in operations management-including lean/JIT, supply chain management, quality management, and operations risk-by applying them to diverse and dynamic business contexts.

4. Diagnose complex operations problems using a range of analytical tools and techniques and formulate evidence-based recommendations.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
