Short Description
The course provides a comprehensive framework to examine the operations of capital markets to channel funds from individual and institutional investors to enterprises. The course examines several valuation techniques associated with financial securities including equities, bonds, derivatives and alternative investments.

Course Aims
The course aim is to,
■ provide a comprehensive framework to examine the operations of financial markets and institutions to facilitate the flow of funds from ultimate savers to borrowers via financial securities including equities, bonds, and derivatives.
■ provide several advanced techniques to incorporate financial information including returns, risk profiles and relevant characteristics into financial valuation and examine their implications for investors, enterprises and institutions.
■ develop a framework to examine the role of alternative finance to channel funds to enterprises and generate financial gains for individual and institutional investors.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Critically examine financial markets, institutions and their services to the overall financial system.
2. Critically assess the operations of the financial markets and their implications to the investors and enterprises.
3. Critically appraise the different elements of portfolio management using various techniques of measuring risk and returns for portfolio revision and evaluation.
4. Critically evaluate pricing techniques for various financial assets, specifically equities, bonds and options, traded within the financial markets.
5. Critically appraise the role of alternative finance in providing funding to run enterprises through their life cycle and its implications for financial valuation and growth.
