Short Description
This course examines cultural institutions as key meeting points between cultural practice, policy and management. A range of cultural institutions will be explored, from museums to multi-artform festivals, with case studies drawn from both local and international contexts.

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ Critical Essay (3000 words) - 60%
■ Critical Evaluation (2000 words) - 40%

Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Provide students with an understanding of the varied organisational models and institutional practices within the cultural industries
■ Develop understandings of how cultural institutions interface between cultural policy, production and presentation
■ Equip students with knowledge of key practices and debates around institutional critique within the cultural industries, and how institutions have responded to this
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Outline, discuss and analyse a range of institutional practices within the cultural industries, locally, nationally and internationally
■ Explain how cultural institutions reflect and shape cultural policy, and impact on creative production
■ Effectively evaluate institutional practices and critiques of these across cultural industries, addressing lineages of these, and their impacts and limitations within institutions
