Short Description
Students will learn about the key determinants of economic development, related to geography, institutions, human capital, diversity and health, among others, using tools and knowledge that span the conventional methodological and disciplinary boundaries.
Timetable
10 x 2-hour lecture per week
Students will learn and understand development via face-to-face in person lectures, discussions and debates in the classroom, online recorded video lectures on every topic, essay assignment, final exam, and more. Learning and teaching methods include: critical thinking, learning through debates and discussions in the class, etc.

Course Aims
The course aims to:
■ explore the different perspectives towards economic development,
■ synthesise academic disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, psychology,
■ describe how these relate to the perspective from economics.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Compare and contrast disciplinary and methodological approaches to development, leading to a multidisciplinary outlook.
1. Critically evaluate the key determinants of development in different institutional contexts and current policy debates.
1. Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills in the field of development.
1. Design effective strategies that help in improving the work of development professionals.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
