This course provides an introduction to research methods in Global History. Students will meet in seminars to discuss concepts, methods and approaches underpinning the study of global history. In addition, they will participate in a series of 'hackathons' held in archives, museums and libraries in Glasgow to explore the potential of local sources for doing global history.

This course aims to:

■ Engage with different methodological approaches underpinning the field of Global History;

■ Explore a variety of local archival resources to develop research projects in Global History;

■ Enable students to develop advanced skills in the formulation of research questions and the development of independent research projects in global history;

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Evaluate primary source collections suitable for the study of global history;

■ Plan an original research question in the field of global history and explain how it will be used to investigate a specific subject;

■ Compose a research project proposal related to global history, explaining its significance, theoretical background and methodology

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
