Short Description
This course introduces students to the approaches and techniques used in studying anatomy, with a particular focus on the anatomy of the cardiorespiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. Students will study each system in detail including microanatomy, development and macroanatomy.

Assessment
Group presentation (20%, ILOs 1, 3 and 5). Each student in a group will present for 4 minutes.
Practical ("spot") examination (80%, ILO 2). This will consist of 20 stations, each with a single prosection specimen or image. Each prosection/image will have an A and B pin inserted into a specific structure. The questions will ask students to identify or state the function of the pinned structures. Students will have 1 minute per station.

Course Aims
The course aims to:
■ Introduce a variety of approaches to investigating human anatomy including histology, imaging, prosection and dissection;
■ Provide the opportunity to study the anatomy of the cardiorespiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems.
■ Develop an appreciation the relationship between anatomical structure and physiological function.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Evaluate and utilise a range of techniques that can be employed to investigate human anatomy;
2. Demonstrate an extensive, detailed and critical knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of the cardiorespiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems;
3. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different imaging techniques for different tissues/organs;
4. Collaborate with peers to evaluate and effectively communicate recent relevant research.
