Course Aims
The course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the various ways in which large scale protein expression can be carried out for Biotechnological applications. The course will explore various recombinant systems, the use of coupled proteins and tags, expression of difficult proteins and different methods of affinity purification.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Critically analyse the current methodologies used to express and purify proteins of biotechnological significance in recombinant systems.
■ Critically evaluate the use of different recombinant systems and purification mechanisms.
■ Describe, critique and perform techniques that are commonly used to express proteins in E.coli.
■ Critically analyse results from experimental data and write an accurate laboratory report using these results.
