Short Description

This course is designed to study data analysis techniques for international innovation strategy and technology management, using patent data. It contains some advanced level of knowledge on quantitative data analysis (e.g., logistic regression, text-mining).

Course Aims

This course aims to introduce students to the topics of technology strategy and data analysis for international entrepreneurs and R&D managers in planning technological products/services. The key topics include patent analysis for catch-up strategy, international knowledge transfer, international standardisation, patent litigation, R&D planning, technological forecasting, technological trajectory. The course also aims to provide the foundation and techniques of data analysis for further study of technology strategy.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

1. Apply the foundation and techniques of data analysis for technology strategy.

 

2. Analyse patent data to identify the future direction of technology.

 

3. Critically discuss firms' innovation and competitive strategy.
