Short Description
The course provides a thorough understanding of key theoretical aspects of business mergers and acquisitions. It covers the theoretical frameworks used to measure M&A deals and also helps develop an appreciation of the limitations and challenges faced by financial managers in the real world.

Course Aims
The aim of this course is to:
■ Develop students' understanding of key aspects of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As) at an advanced level.
■ Assist students to acquire the ability to critically understand both recent and past empirical research in this field.
■ Equip students with the necessary tools to potentially undertake dissertations and/or future research in this area.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Critically explain M&A principles and practices, including sustainable development impacts.
2. Evaluate target firms and estimate the potential gains from takeovers.
3. Apply at an advanced level the various empirical methodologies used in M&As research.
4. Compare methods of valuation in the M&As literature and appraise deal outcomes.
5. Assess M&A cases, integrating financial and sustainability considerations, and clearly communicate insights and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
