Short Description

The course introduces students to contemporary theory and practice in financial analysis and company valuation. The course is taught from the perspective of equity analysts as primary participants in the valuation of publicly traded companies. It has a practical orientation and is designed to equip students with the skills required to conduct comprehensive equity analysis and to produce professional, analyst-style valuation reports.

Course Aims

The aims of this course are to advance students' critical understanding and technical competence in the use of analytical frameworks and tools to analyse listed companies' performance, prospects, and valuation, in order to inform equity investment decisions.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Critically evaluate the complexities and challenges inherent in equity research and valuation practice.

2. Analyse and assess companies' business, financial performance and position.

3. Apply critical judgement to develop and justify forecasting and valuation assumptions, and carry out valuation of listed companies.

4. Produce an equity valuation research report.

5. Collaborate effectively in a group to produce joint outputs through effective peer engagement, task allocation, and coordination of group activities.
