Short Description

The course provides a critical understanding of key tools, concepts, and frameworks in contemporary financial management, with a focus on their application in complex, real-world contexts. It enables students to engage with theory and current research to inform strategic financial decision-making, including financing, investment, and value creation. Emphasis is placed on evaluating financial strategies within dynamic and uncertain domestic and global environments.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to:

■ Critically evaluate complex financial decisions in relation to organisational strategy, risk, and long-term value creation

■ Synthesise contemporary financial theory and practice to address real-world challenges in dynamic and uncertain environments

■ Design and justify financially sound strategies using research-informed analysis.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Evaluate the role of financial management in organisational decision-making, value creation, and long-term strategic objectives.

2. Analyse financial interactions within and across organisations and markets in dynamic and evolving contexts.

3. Evaluate financial decisions in relation to organisational objectives, constraints, and risk considerations.

4. Design financial strategies under conditions of uncertainty, considering risk, return, and strategic implications.

5. Develop a research-informed analysis addressing a contemporary issue in financial management.
