Short Description

The course provides students with detailed understanding of the main topics of human resource management, including recruitment and selection, reward management, learning and development, performance management, automation of work and artificial intelligence and human resource management, employee relations and regulations, business ethics and human resource management, employee engagement, and guanxi-type relations and human resource management. The course helps students to:

 

■ Develop consultancy and critical thinking skills.

■ Develop analytical skills and be able to analyse data and information that can influence strategic decisions.

■ Evaluate different theories, models and schools of thoughts in relation to HRM.

 

This course will develop research skills that contribute to developing graduate attributes and provide an international perspective to student's learning.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ provide participants with a detailed understanding of issues that human resource managers face in contemporary business, for example talent management, strategic human resource management and leadership development.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

1. Evaluate contemporary challenges in human resource management.

2. Critically evaluate the importance of contextual issue when considering the challenges faced by HR managers.

3. Critically evaluate appropriate literature and apply theories to key topics.

4. Critically analyse the HR systems and tools available to address key challenges, and communicate decisions to relevant stakeholders.

5. Work within groups to synthesise, analyse data and achieve tasks.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
