The course aims to develop and deepen the student's personal research interest in contemporary archaeological practice pertaining to specialist study areas.

The standard assessments for this course are:

■ Project design and rationale (1000 words) - 30%

■ Assignment (3000 words) - 70%

■ Satisfactory preparation for tutorials/supervision sessions, satisfactory attendance at tutorials/supervision sessions

■ There is no alternative to the project design, but flexible deadlines can be offered as reasonable adjustments (students should follow the usual process for extensions)

- promote an engagement with other scholarly, critical, theoretical or applied arguments relevant to that specific study area
- encourage the application of acquired research OR acquired research and practical skills to a supervised independent project

By the end of this course students will be able to -

- Show a knowledge and understanding of their personal study area

- evaluate other scholarly, critical, theoretical or applied arguments relevant to that area

- Illustrate the ability to work independently

- Represent the ability to define, plan and execute a sustained, focused research project
