Short Description

The aim of this course is to:

■ Provide students with the opportunity to develop generic laboratory skills required for precision medicine

■ Provide students with the opportunity to perform experiments and subsequently analyse, interpret and present the data generated.

■ Provide students with training to enable them to synthesise data and formulate a scientific lab report.

This course is made up of lectures and practical lab sessions which will take place in semester 1.

Assessment

1. Lab report approx. 2500 words (75%) (ILOs 1,2 and 4)

2. Presentation: 15 minutes (25%) (ILO 1 and 3)

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

1. Critically evaluate laboratory protocols for research methods required for precision medicine.

2. Apply theoretical knowledge underpinning molecular lab techniques during lab practicals.

3. Critically discuss a workflow design for generating a sequencing set and evaluate the results.

4. Critically analyse experimental results and data generated through statistical analysis.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
