This course demonstrates how the design of consumer products is being rapidly changed by the introduction of inexpensive programmable microelectronics technology.

Course Aims

The aims of this course is are to:

■ illustrate how the design of consumer products is being rapidly changed by the introduction of inexpensive programmable microelectronics technology;

■ to engender a basic knowledge of microprocessor operation.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course the students will be able to:

■ design and analyse the operational principles behind simple microprocessor systems;

■ discuss the opportunities afforded by including microprocessors in consumer products.
