Short Description

Students will be provided with background knowledge and skills on how to prepare athletes for sport including preparation of teams and individuals. Students will be provided with a critical understanding of various approaches required for athletes to perform well and the challenges they might face delivering sport and exercise medicine in practice.

Course Aims

This course aims to provide students with background knowledge and skill on how to prepare athletes for sport including preparation of teams and individuals. Students will be provided with a critical understanding of various approaches required for athletes to perform well and the evidence base surrounding these. They will gain knowledge and understanding in the challenges they might face delivering sport and exercise medicine in practice.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate the multi-dimensional demands of elite sport and the evidence underpinning approaches used to support and optimise athlete performance.

2. Critically evaluate the practical, ethical, organisational, and professional considerations involved in delivering effective support to elite athletes.

3. Apply scientific principles and practitioner knowledge to design and justify preparation strategies for elite athletes.

4. Justify evidence-based recommendations for athlete preparation to stakeholders in performance environments
