Short Description
This course explores various forms of writing for performance taught by a theatre practitioner.

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ 20-minute play - 70%
■ 1500 word practice reflection - 30%
If required, for instance where a disability prevents a student from undertaking a specific method of assessment, the following alternatives are available:
■ There is no alternative to the play, but a flexible deadline can be offered as reasonable adjustments (students should follow the usual process for extensions)
■ There is no alternative to the practical reflection, but a flexible deadline can be offered as reasonable adjustments (students should follow the usual process for extensions)

Course Aims
The course aims to:
acquaint the students with the basics of writing for performance;
explore the various genres possible for writing for the stage; and,
examine the work of Scottish and international playwrights.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of the course students will be able to:
demonstrate a comprehensive practical and critical understanding of the work of a playwright;
demonstrate an ability to assess how a performance piece will work on stage; and,
demonstrate an ability to revise from critical feedback regarding a work-in-progress showing.
