Short Description

During this course, students will learn theoretical frameworks and develop practical skills of critical reflection and evidence-based practice which will support their professional learning and development. Students will apply their learning to identify areas of improvement within practice through reflection and design solutions using an evidence-based practice approach. The implementation of changes in practice will also be considered.

1. Write a critically reflective essay on an aspect of professional practice and design an evidence-based practice change (3000 words, 75%) - ILO 2 and 3

 

2. Contribute to online reflective discussions and collaborative activities (25%) - ILO 1 and 4

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Support students to explore and critique foundational theories of reflective practice and evidence-based practice, including different frameworks, models and tools.

■ Enable students to use critical reflection to explore their practise and identify improvements which can be addressed using evidence-based practice principles.

■ Provide students with the opportunity to apply their learning to their own contexts, while considering how changes to practice could be implemented and identifying solutions to overcome associated barriers.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Critically debate reflective and evidence-based practice and relate this to experiences of practice.

2. Critically evaluate professional practice using reflection and develop an evidence-based change that could be implemented to improve practice.

3. Assess barriers to implementing evidence-based practice and recommend appropriate leadership or change management strategies to overcome them.

4. Critically reflect on experiences and tacit knowledge, integrating new understanding, and consider how learning has developed existing practice and may impact on future personal or professional development.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
