Turing AI Global Fellowships

EPSRC has announced the Turing AI Global Fellowships scheme. This fellowship funding opportunity is for exceptional Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers currently based outside of the UK. Turing AI Global Fellowships offer funding to relocate to the UK, establish a highly skilled team and undertake transformational AI research.

The total cost to EPSRC for your project can be up to £4.5 million. Fellowships can last up to five years, starting by 1 February 2027.

AI Research at the University of Glasgow

Established in response to the growing importance and pervasiveness of data science and AI in research and society, the Centre for Data Science and AI aims to lead in this rapidly evolving field through cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary application. 

The vision for the Centre for Data Science and AI is “To do world-changing, impactful, creative, collaborative, and ethical research in data science and AI to tackle grand challenges and build a better future for all”   

Data Science and AI research at Glasgow University is focused on developing approaches that are human-centred and user-oriented. Research is broad, covering challenges across all four Colleges – Arts & Humanities, Science & Engineering, Social Sciences and Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences - and focused on responsible AI, explainable models and tackling societal challenges. Key areas include healthcare data science, knowledge retrieval, NLP, AI ethics and urban big data.

Applicant Eligibility

The call is focused on recruiting exceptional global AI talent to UK organisations. Fellows: 

  • must have been based outside of the UK for at least 24 months prior to submitting an application 
  • should spend at least 50% full-time equivalent (FTE) commitment on the fellowship 
  • should be exceptional, world-class AI experts from outside the UK who are either established international leaders in AI or who can demonstrate outstanding potential to shape the future of AI research globally 
  • should conduct research into AI at a fundamental, foundational, or theoretical level, or be working at the interface between AI and other disciplines, where the application context drives novel model development or theoretical insight 

Fellows should have experience of: 

  • strategic leadership and management of programme(s) 
  • leading and managing team(s) and resources 
  • having established, or are in the process of establishing, a clear research specialism 
  • having a high or rising international standing in AI, who can contribute to the growth and development of the UK’s AI community and economy 

UofG Selection Process

The University of Glasgow is permitted by EPSRC to submit two applicant proposals to the scheme. Please find below our demand management process timeline.
