Degrees in other subjects may be accepted if you have relevant work experience.
We also consider qualifications below a 2:1 Honours (or equivalent) if supported by substantial experience in Arts or Heritage fields like Visual or Performing Arts, museums, galleries, auction houses, or art law. Practitioners and administrators in these areas are welcome to apply.
Step 2: Verify that you meet the English language requirements.
If English is not your first language, you must meet the University of Glasgow's English language requirements to undertake this programme.
There are no exceptions to this rule, and we kindly request that you refrain from enquiring about this.
As part of your application, in line with UK Government regulations, you must upload a test certificate to confirm your proficiency.
Step 3: Access the Application Portal.
The University of Glasgow coordinates the MAGMa Consortium, and all applications must be submitted through our online Application Portal.
No other consortium partners (i.e. other universities involved in the MAGMa programme) can accept applications.
You do not need to complete your application in one go. You have 42 days from when you start to fill in all sections, upload your documents, and submit. You can save your progress and return to your application as needed.
To avoid issues, submit your application well before the deadline to ensure that all documents have been correctly uploaded. You must submit your application form and all supporting documents by the deadline. Incomplete applications cannot be accepted, except for your degree certificate if you are still studying for it at the time of application.
Step 4: Start your application.
Pay extra attention to the the following fields:
- Name and Date of Birth: Must match exactly as they appear on your passport. Double-check spelling and layout.
- Contact Details: Provide your current correspondence address.
- Choice of Programme: Select 'Managing Art and Cultural Heritage in Global Markets’.
- Proposed Date of Entry: Select ‘September 2025’.
- Education and Qualifications: List all relevant higher education qualifications, starting with the most recent. Ensure the institution names match your degree certificates or transcripts.
- English Language Proficiency: Enter the date of your English test and result. If you haven’t taken the test yet, provide the booking date and expected result date. Upload your test certificate by the application deadline if applying for a scholarship.
- Employment and Experience: Detail all relevant work experience, which you can expand on in your personal statement.
Step 5: Decide whether you’re applying for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship or funding your studies yourself.

Deadlines:

Thinking of applying for the scholarship?
Scholarship applications for September 2025 entry are now closed.
The European Union co-funds the MAGMa programme through the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programme (EMJM).
Successful scholarship applicants may recieve a grant of up to $33,600 to cover tuition fees and travel insurance for the duration of the programme, as well as a monthly stipend to put towards living expenses.
Step 6: Upload supporting documents to your application.
Collect and upload the following documents:
- Academic Transcripts: Include original transcripts in their language and provide official English translations if needed. These should detail the subjects studied and grades received.
- Degree Certificates: Include certificates for any degrees obtained. If not in English, provide an official translation. If you are in your final year, submit your latest transcript; your offer will be conditional upon receipt of your degree certificate. If you hold both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, upload both certificates along with any necessary translations.
- CV: Submit a current CV in any format.
- References: You must submit two full, typed reference letters: one academic and the other either academic or professional. These references should provide detailed information about your character, skills, and experience. Simply providing names and contact details of referees is not sufficient.
Each reference must:
- Be dated within the last two years.
- Be written on official letterhead or include an official stamp.
- Be signed either digitally or by hand (typed names are not acceptable).
If your referees prefer to send their letters directly, they can email them to erasmusreferences@glasgow.ac.uk, ensuring your name is included in the subject line. Emails must come from a professional email account (e.g., from an institution or organisation) rather than a personal one (e.g., Gmail or Hotmail).
Please note: The University cannot contact referees on your behalf. Ensure you arrange for the letters to be submitted as per the above guidelines.
- English Language Test Results: If English is not your first language, include your test result certificate to confirm you meet the required level.
- Passport Copy: Include a copy of your passport photo page to confirm your fee status and English language requirement.
Step 7: If you wish to apply for Individual Needs Support, please include an additional statement in your application. If not, skip this step.
MAGMa offers Erasmus Mundus Individual Needs Support to support students with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments. This support is available to both scholarship and self-funded students.
Funding amounts range from €3,000 to €60,000 and can be used for:
- Adapting environments and technology
- Services
- Assistance by third parties
- Additional travel and transport costs
- Specialist technology
To apply for this support, include the following in your application:
- A statement outlining the specific adaptations, services, or travel support you need.
- A statement from a professional confirming your needs, such as from a consultant, doctor, psychiatrist, optician, or audiologist.
The University of Glasgow’s Inclusion Team will determine the allocation of funds. While this may not cover the full cost of your request, it will significantly contribute.
For more details, refer to the ERASMUS+ programme guide (pages 250–251).
Step 8: Submit your application.
The University of Glasgow Admissions team will now review your academic qualifications and English language results. If eligible, we’ll offer you a place on the course. If not, your application will be withdrawn.
Upon accepting an offer, self-funded students are required to pay a £2,000 deposit to secure their place on the course. Scholarship students are exempt from this requirement.
Good luck!
