Work with us
The CVR is the UK's largest grouping of human and veterinary virologists. Its mission is to carry out multidisciplinary research on viruses and viral diseases of human and animals, and to translate the knowledge gained for the improvement of human and animal health. The CVR has excellent facilities for conducting research in molecular biology and virology located in a purpose-built research building at the Garscube campus of the University of Glasgow. The CVR is a core component of the School of Infection and Immunity within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow. We are currently looking to recruit for the following position.
COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST/BIOINFORMATICIAN, Reference 178592
We have an exciting opportunity for a Computational Biologist/Bioinformatician to join our Bioinformatics team to carry out research on virus infection of cells. Our computational team supports the research activities of both experimental and computational scientists within the CVR.
The postholder will contribute to the analysis of antiviral host-mechanisms and comparative virology datasets, including those derived from transcriptomics experiments. The role will also involve the application of biostatistics and machine learning approaches to virus omics data.
Experience with methodologies that complement the current team’s expertise – such as single-cell or spatial transcriptomics, data integration, drug target identification, or advanced statistical modelling – would be a distinct advantage.
Funding for this full-time post is available until 31 March 2027 in the first instance.
The appointment will be made on the Research and Teaching Grade, level 6 or 7 depending on experience (Grade 6 £33,482 - £37,174 / Grade 7 £40,497 - £45,413 per annum).
