The CVR is the UK's largest grouping of human and veterinary virologists. Its mission is to carry out multidisciplinary research on viruses and viral diseases of human and animals, and to translate the knowledge gained for the improvement of human and animal health. The CVR has excellent facilities for conducting research in molecular biology and virology located in a purpose-built research building at the Garscube campus of the University of Glasgow. The CVR is a core component of the School of Infection and Immunity within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Research Technician, Vacancy Reference 205253
We are seeking to appoint a Research Technician to carry out research on the interaction of mosquitoes, mosquito transmitted viruses and the mammalian host immune response.
The postholder will be working under the supervision of Dr Daniella Lefteri. The main research focus of this group is to study mosquito transmitted viruses and specifically focusing on the interactions between the mosquito host, the viruses they transmit, endosymbionts and examining the effect they have on virus transmission to mammals and the mammalian immune responses. The research aims to develop and improve novel treatments and methods for controlling mosquito-borne diseases and infections; research is carried out using mosquito colonies, cell lines, viruses and mice.
The postholder will provide in-depth technical expertise and support in one or more of the following areas: mosquito culture / maintenance and manipulation, including research on interactions with symbionts and pathogens, mosquito and cell line culture; molecular biology; in vivo mouse work.
The role will also involve supporting the research of the group and carrying out research projects involving data collection and analysis.
Funding for this full-time post is available up to 4 May 2028.
The appointment will be made on the Technical and Specialist Grade, level 5 (£28,031 - £31,236 per annum).
