Skills, Support and Progression

Skills, Support and Progression programme

Alongside their two academic subjects, students on Access students will also participate in our Skills, Support and Progression 10 credit course.

Skills, Support and Progression (SS&P) will help students develop the skills required to be successful on Access, and provide support with making the progression on to undergraduate degree study

SS&P is a core component of Access which all students must engage with. It is delivered in two ways:

  • SS&P sessions – one class, delivered fortnightly throughout Access, as well as one Campus Day per semester. The SS&P team will also provide Induction sessions before Access commences.
  • SS&P asynchronous units – completed online on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle. Units are completed fortnightly, following the live session.

SS&P Sessions

SS&P sessions, delivered live online, once a fortnight, will provide students with all the information, advice and guidance they require whilst studying on Access, and for their progression onto undergraduate study. These sessions will also provide an opportunity for students to come together with the Access SS&P Team to discuss topics related to key academic skills, building confidence in independent study and the process of applying for undergraduate study at university.

Sessions are delivered once a fortnight at the following times:

  • Tuesday 12:00 - 13:00
  • Tuesday 17:30 - 18:30
  • Wednesday 12:00 - 13:00
  • Wednesday 17:30 - 18:30

Students should select one SS&P session to add to their timetable when choosing their two Access subjects. Students are encouraged to use their SS&P timeslot on the week that there is not an SS&P live online session to work on their SS&P asynchronous units (see below).

SS&P Asynchronous Units

SS&P asynchronous units provide an opportunity for students to put into practice what they have learned in the live session. The asynchronous units are to be completed fortnightly, following the live session.

SS&P asynchronous units are hosted on Moodle, the UofG VLE (virtual learning environment). The asynchronous units consist of a set of structured activities such as quizzes, worksheets and a personal reflective learning log, which are all accessible in the one place and completed through the SS&P Moodle.

Campus Days

In addition to the SS&P sessions and asynchronous units, all Access students will be encouraged to attend one SS&P Campus Day per semester.

  • Semester 1 Campus Day will be held on Saturday 31st of October 2026.
  • Semester 2 Campus Day will be held on Saturday 30th of January 2027.

The Access Campus Days are held on the University of Glasgow’s Gilmorehill campus (in the West End of Glasgow). These events are a great opportunity for students to spend time on campus and meet staff and fellow students in-person.

Further details about the Campus Days will be emailed to students during the Access Programme.
