Summary

On 19-20 August 2026, the Adam Smith Business School partnered with the School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM ITB), to host the SBM ITB Industrial Summit 2026 in Jakarta. Held as part of the international commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations, the summit brought together academics, policymakers, industry leaders and regulators to discuss Indonesia's economic transformation in an increasingly complex global environment.

The event explored themes including industrial competitiveness, productivity, innovation, technology adoption and sustainable economic growth. Contributions from Professor Soner Baskaya (Adam Smith Business School), Professor Wendy Alexander (University of Glasgow) and Dr Xiang Li (University of Glasgow) highlighted the importance of international collaboration, economic resilience and the role of institutions in supporting long-term prosperity.

The summit also examined how Adam Smith's ideas continue to inform contemporary debates on investment, financial stability, economic development and inclusive growth. Bringing together perspectives from academia, government and industry, the event highlighted the value of collaboration in addressing global challenges and supporting future economic development. The summit formed part of the ongoing partnership between the Adam Smith Business School and SBM ITB, strengthening international dialogue on economic policy, innovation and industrial transformation.
